Delaware hires Notre Dame assistant Martin Ingelsby as new head coach

Delaware has finally found its new head basketball coach Tuesday, as CBSSports’ Gary Parrish broke the news that the school had reached an agreement with long-time Notre Dame assistant coach Martin Ingelsby. Delaware had been without a head coach for over two months, after previous coach Monté Ross was fired on March 18th.

Ingelsby steps into a pretty difficult position in Delaware, as the Blue Hens have just four returning scholarship players on the roster – five others have asked the school for a release to transfer. The 37-yr old Philadelphia native grew up just 50 miles from the Delaware campus, starring for his father, Tom, at Archbishop Carroll High School. He then played four seasons at Notre Dame, spending his senior year under the tutelage of Mike Brey.

Brey brought Ingelsby back to South Bend in 2003 as Director of Basketball Operations, then promoted him to assistant coach after six seasons. During that time, the Irish have gone to six NCAA Tournaments, including back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in the last two years.
