- Garibaldi was a star prep athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball at Stockton HS (CA)
- Focused on basketball at Santa Clara, playing for head coach Bob Feerick
- Was part of the Broncos’ team that reached the NCAA Final Four in 1952
- Earned All-WCAC (now WCC) honors in 1957; inducted into the Santa Clara Athletic HOF in 1969
- Later became head coach of the Broncos in 1962, leading the program to a 137-77 record over eight seasons
- Nearly took the Oregon State head coaching job in 1970 but instead accepted a non-coaching job with Converse
