- Played for the Georgetown Hoyas from 1939-42, where he was coached by Hall of Famer Elmer Ripley
- Spent two years playing professionally for the Providence Steamrollers of the BAA
- Coached basketball and tennis at the La Salle Academy in Providence for three years
- Became the head basketball coach at Boston College in 1953, leading the team for nine seasons
- Went 109-102 overall and in 1958, led the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Tournament
- Finished .500 or better in six of the nine seasons he was at the helm
- After BC, Martin worked as a tennis pro and sports coordinator for Kirtland Country Club in Ohio
- Worked at Kirtland for seventeen years and then retired and moved to Florida
- Passed away in 1999 at the age of 79 in Bonita Springs, FL
