  • Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Alma Mater: University of Southern Mississippi (BA, 1969)
  • Graduated from Southern Miss, then started his coaching career at Holy Cross HS in his hometown of New Orleans
    • Went 211-99 overall in 10 seasons as the head coach and in 1974 finished a state runner-up
  • Moved to the college ranks in 1979, spending one season on Jim Hatfield’s staff at Mississippi State followed by two years under Wimp Sanderson at Alabama
  • Became the head coach at then-Division II Troy in 1982, started his long tenure at the helm of the Trojans
    • Led the team for 31 seasons, during which time the program transitioned to Division I (starting in 1993)
    • Won 501 games overall, 291 of which came at the D-I level, and was 260-215 in conference play
    • Claimed seven league titles (1x Gulf South, 1x ECC, 4x A-Sun, 1x Sun Belt) and three league tournaments (1x Gulf South, 1x A-Sun, 1x Sun Belt)
    • Reached the D-II NCAA Tournament four times, with two Final Fours and a Runner-up finish in 1993
    • At the Division I level, reached the postseason four times (1x NCAA, 2x NITs and 1x CBI)
    • In 1992, Maestri’s Trojans played in the highest-scoring game in NCAA history, beating NAIA DeVry 258-141 at home
      • Eight Troy players scored 20+ points each and as a team, they went 51-109 from 3PT
    • Retired from Troy in 2013 after 31 seasons at the helm, going 501-403 in total
  • In 2016, Maestri came out of retirement to be a special assistant to head coach Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M
    • Maestri had coached Kennedy at Holy Cross HS and has mentored him throughout his coaching career
