- Won two state titles at Lebanon HS (IN) then starred for Ward “Piggy” Lambert at Purdue
- Twice earned all-conference honors and helped lead Purdue to the 1921 Big Ten title as a senior
- Started his coaching career in 1923, when he was hired as head coach at Washington University in Missouri
- Went 102-112 with the Bears, who were then members of the Missouri Valley at the sport’s highest level
- Won two Missouri Valley titles in 1929 and 1930

- Left Rutgers in 1956 when he was tabbed by the US State Department to start a basketball program in Thailand
- Coached the Thailand national team at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, though they finished 15th out of 15 nations
- Returned to coaching Rutgers for one more season (1962-63), during which he got his 300th collegiate victory
