Drexel fires head coach Bruiser Flint after 15 seasons

Bruiser Flint announced today via Twitter that he and Drexel were parting ways following the Dragons 6-23 season. Flint spent fifteen seasons as the Drexel head coach, leading the Dragons to five NIT appearances, but was never able to capture the CAA Tournament title and an elusive NCAA Tournament bid.

The Dragons grabbed the regular season CAA title back in 2011-12, going 29-7 (16-2) and reaching the quarterfinals of the NIT. But with just one winning season since then, Drexel is ready to make a change.

James “Bruiser” Flint came to Philadelphia after five seasons as the head coach at UMass, where he led the Minutemen to two NCAA Tournaments but could not escape the shadow of his mentor John Calipari.

Flint is a Philly native, a member of the Saint Joseph’s Athletic Hall of Fame and an All-Atlantic 10 selection in 1987. During his time leading the Dragons, Flint was named CAA Coach of the Year four times (2002, 2004, 2009 & 2012) and compiled an overall record of 245-217 (150-117 CAA).
