Florida Atlantic hires Gators assistant Dusty May

Florida assistant Dusty May has been officially named the new head coach at Florida Atlantic, the school announced Thursday.

May has been on Mike White‘s staff at Florida since 2013, when he followed the head coach to the Sunshine State from Louisiana Tech.

May’s resume as an assistant is extensive, with stints working under White, Mike Davis, Billy Kennedy, among others. As an undergraduate at Indiana, he was a men’s basketball student manager during Bob Knight‘s final four years in Bloomington.

Florida Atlantic is looking to breathe life into a program that has been to just one NCAA Tournament (2002) since the program started in 1988. Previous head coach Michael Curry was fired after four seasons with a .317 winning percentage. The Owls haven’t played in a postseason tournament of any kind since losing in the first round of the 2011 NIT.
