  • Became an assistant in 2005, spending one year under Charles Ramsey at Eastern Michigan then one at Murray State under Billy Kennedy
  • Rejoined Mike Davis‘ staff in 2007 as an assistant for two seasons at UAB
  • Worked as an assistant for six seasons at Louisiana Tech, first under Kerry Rupp and then under Mike White
    • Followed White to Florida in 2015, where he worked as an assistant for the next three seasons
  • Hired in March 2018 to become the head coach at Florida Atlantic
    • Went 66-55 through his first four years at the helm, with one CBI and one CIT appearance
    • His 2022-23 team went 35-3, was ranked as high as #19, won the outright C-USA title and C-USA Tournament, reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002 and made a run to the NCAA Final Four; May was named C-USA COY
  • In March 2024, May left FAU to become the new head coach at Michigan in the Big Ten
