  • Was named Rhode Island Player of the Year twice while starring at Central HS in Providence
  • Played at New Hampton School and at D-II Stonehill College (MA), where he was three-year captain for coach Raymond Pepin
  • Started his coaching career in 1994 as an assistant at D-III UMass-Dartmouth for head coach Brian Baptiste and after one year returned to Stonehill to spend one year as an assistant there under Dave DeCiantis
  • Spent one season at Rhode Island and nine seasons at Boston College as an assistant to head coach Al Skinner
  • Was head coach at Fairfield for five seasons, leading the Stags to a MAAC title and NIT berth in 2011
  • Returned to his hometown in 2011 when he was hired to be the new head coach of the Providence Friars
    • Led the Friars to seven 20+ win seasons, seven NCAA Tournament appearances and two NITs
    • In 2022, Cooley’s team won the first Big East regular season title in the program’s long history
    • Finished his 12-year tenure with 242 wins, the second-most in PC history
  • Hired in March 2023 to be the new head coach at Georgetown, also in the Big East
