  • Played three seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels under Hall of Fame head coach Dean Smith
    • Played in two NCAA Final Fours (1968, 1969); UNC finished as national runner-up in 1968
    • After undergrad, Fogler spent one year as an assistant the famed DeMatha Catholic HS (MD) under legendary head coach Morgan Wooten
  • Returned to Chapel Hill in 1971, spending the next fifteen seasons as an assistant coach with the Tar Heels
    • Working under Dean Smith, he was part of 13 NCAA Tournaments, four Final Fours and the 1982 NCAA title
  • Hired in 1986 to be the head coach at Wichita State, leading the Shockers for three seasons and winning 61 games
    • Reached the postseason each of those three years (two NCAA, one NIT)
  • Moved on to Vanderbilt in 1989, spending the next four seasons as the Commodores head coach
    • Won the 1990 NIT title in his first year and later reached the Sweet Sixteen in his fourth
  • Finished his coaching career with an eight-year tenure as the head coach at South Carolina
    • Won 123 games, went to two NCAA Tournaments and two NITs, and won the 1997 SEC regular season title
    • Retired from coaching in 2001 with 265 victories and eleven postseason berths (5 NCAA, 6 NIT) in his career
  • Still resides in South Carolina, where he works in television for Fox Sports and radio for WGFX Nashville
    • Also has served as an adviser for colleges during head basketball coaching searches
  • Along with his wife, Robin, has one daughter and one son
