  • Alma Mater: Creighton University (BA, 1927)
  • Started coaching in 1934 as both the head football coach and head basketball coach at alma mater Creighton
    • Went 2-7 (2-1) in his only season as the Bluejays football coach
    • Won 130 games over 12 seasons (two stints) on the hardwood, going to one NCAA Tournament and two NITs
  • Took over at MVC foe Saint Louis in 1947, leading the Billikens to 5 NITs and 1 NCAA Tournament in 11 seasons at the helm
  • Became the head coach at Marquette in 1958, leading the (then) Warriors to a 23-6 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in his first season
    • Earned numerous Coach of the Year honors as a result, including the NABC and Henry Iba Award
    • Took Marquette to another NCAA Tournament two years later and the NIT in 1963 before retiring after a disappointing 1963-64 season
  • After coaching, Hickey served as the secretary of the American Automobile Association in Terre Haute, IN from 1965-1976
  • Died of a heart attack at age 77 on December 5, 1980 in Mesa, AZ
    • Survived by his second wife, Ethel, and two sons
