The world has adopted the EV to such an extent that it has become the best-selling vehicle globally. Once the electric motor was accepted by the automotive world, it found its way into the weird and wonderful personal mobility creations that populate the world’s metropolises. The compact size of the electric motor is down to its lack of moving parts, which enables it to have massive practical applications for a variety of personal transport solutions. A new engine is currently being tested that could shock the world with its 180Wh.

The electric motor has evolved since its inception and global embrace

The world was amazed by the EV and the moral superiority that it gave the owner, along with the added benefit of being part of the solution to the climate crisis and not part of the problem. Once the world embraced the EV, thanks in no small part to companies such as Tesla and BYD, the electric motor has found a home in the personal mobility sector.

That global acceptance has led the electric motor down the evolutionary chain to smaller vehicles designed for city use. The e-bike emerged from out of the dust left by Tesla and BYD to piggyback on the practicality of the electric motor. The infrastructure needed for recharging already exists, especially in the more built-up regions of the world. The advancements in battery technology have also led to faster charging times and more efficient motors.

The EV has not given us the solution to the world’s energy crisis

As the EV became more accepted and therefore more popular, the problems began to emerge like a shark’s fin breaking the surface of the sea water, much to the shock and terror of all. EVs are not the solution we were hoping for, as the infrastructure we use to charge them runs on fossil fuels. However, for small distances, and in particular city usage, the electric motor is hard to contend with.

The electric motor is being redesigned for a new personal mobility vehicle

E-bikes have become immensely popular in the cities of the world. They offer the rider a fast and efficient mode of getting around the traffic-jammed roads of their cities. As a result of this, several companies have begun to design electric motors specifically for mountain bikes that can be easily integrated onto their existing bikes that they use every day.

Mavic’s new X-Tend motor could be the end of EVs, at least in the city

Mavic, a French company based on the outskirts of Annecy that has unveiled its X-Tend motor for e-bikes. The motor is a bite-sized 87mm wide and weighs only 3.2kg with a 180Wh output. Mavic’s testers claim they achieved a real-world ascent of 3,000 meters on a single charge. They also claim the motor was designed for minimal integration with a variety of bikes on the market.

With the world waving a fond farewell to gasoline engines, and thanks to this new X-Tend motor from Mavic, the engines that power the world are changing at a rapid pace. Mavic claims the design is unique and no other design is comparable currently on the market. The motor is still in the testing phase, but Mavic claims they plan to release it in 2025-26 and have several bike brands interested.

The small electric motor is redefining the modern-day mobility sector

The world is keenly focused on the Robotaxi situation that has swept up the automotive industry’s attention. While the world is fascinated by the latest trend in the mobility sector, companies like Mavic are focused on improving the electric motor for personal mobility usage that could have a lasting impact on the way we travel around our home cities. The majority of people would never even use a Robotaxi, but we could envision a sea of e-bikes riding silently around the major metropolises of the world.
