Ferrari have developed an engine for their new 296 Speciale that has 868 HP and can rev at 8,500 RPM. Ferrari have long been the world leader in the supercar department. Their designs are legendary and this new car is a step up from the original car its based on. The world and its major car manufacturers are focused on the electric vehicle at the moment. This new engine is a hybrid that takes full advantage of the unholy collaboration between gasoline and electric power. Can Ferrari prove the world’s fascination with the EV is just a trend?

What is Ferrari’s history and stance towards the electric vehicle?

Ferrari officially began when Enzo Ferrari broke away from the Alfa Romeo racing team to create his own team using his own name. Its amazing to think how far the company has come since then. Ferrari are one of the most recognizable brands in the world and have had a dominance in the automotive industry that other companies could only dream of.

Up until this point in time, Ferrari have steered well clear of the electric vehicle industry. They flat out refused to jump on board with the rest of the world to embrace the EV as the car of the future. It must be noted that they have incorporated the electric motor into their hybrid cars in an attempt to not fall far behind the rest of the pack.

Ferrari have announced that they will make a foray into the EV market this year though. They have stated that in 2025 the world will get a glimpse at the first fully electric Ferrari, the Eletricca. They have finally invested in the electrification of their brand with their brand new factory in Maranelo. The building is dedicated to producing their electric models as well as hybrids for the future.

What makes this new 296 Speciale so different and unique?

The new car is a lighter, tighter and more impressive than the car it is based on. Ferrari have a long history of making special edition versions of their cars. Most of those special cars are completely sold off before they are even released. Ferrari also have a long history of rewarding their existing customers by offering them the opportunity to buy these unique cars.

The 296 Speciale will have 50 HP more than the previous version. Ferrari have also added titanium and carbon fiber to the body design and manufacturing to make the car lighter as well. This makes the car even better to handle, a feature that has long been a defining characteristic of Ferrari’s cars. Ferrari have made some serious design changes and improvements to their engines recently.

While previous special edition versions of their cars have been designed specifically for the track. The Enzo supercar can not be driven on the roads by law. This new car however is not like that. It is designed and manufactured to be used on the roads as well as on the track. With the eye-watering price of around half a million dollars, not many people could even dream of driving it.

Can Ferrari make a success of their new hybrid engines and EV’s?

Ferrari have made a commitment to the future. The automotive industry is changing and evolving. Ferrari will need to innovate their designs to meet the ever demanding consumers. Their customer base will understand that Ferrari will develop their own approach to the EV industry. In the meantime this new supercar will have the technology to beat almost any other car on the road. Ferrari are easily the world’s best luxury supercar manufacturer and the pressure is on for the prancing horse to evolve with the times.
