Goodbye to this historic tax credit — It would be cut after this date

The countdown has begun as we reach the final days to claim $1,500 as per this data breach settlement. All customers meeting the criteria can submit a claim if they have been affected by the 2023 23andMe data breach. The genetic testing company was in hot water due to the data breach that occurred, and as per the settlement agreement, all qualifying claimants could receive up to $1,500. With the deadline being set for July 14, 2025, only a few days remain to file for a share of the settlement fee.

Retracing the steps back to the 23andMe data breach

As per a data breach that occurred in October 2023, personal data of about 7 million 23adnMe users was revealed. Information that landed in the wrong hands included names, ancestry reports, health-related genetic details, as well as DNA matches with relatives. Since the data breach was rather severe, many action lawsuits followed thereafter, more so from the states in favor of stricter privacy laws like California, Illinois, Alaska, and Oregon.

To date, 23andMe has not admitted to any wrongdoing. In order to resolve the matter, the company agreed to a $30 million class action settlement. However, due to bankruptcy proceedings, the matter seems to be somewhat at a standstill. Nevertheless, a bankruptcy court has reopened the window for individual claims from affected users.

Why is data protection of utmost importance?

All of the users who were affected by the data breach received notifications of this breach by May 11, 2025. The lawsuits that followed proposed how essential data protection is, and thus, all affected users are urged to file a claim before the claim filing deadline.

The process to file a claim is relatively simple:

  1. Visit the settlement website.
  2. Download the claim form.
  3. Provide any necessary documentation or proof, if applicable.
  4. Submit the form online or mail the form to the address listed on the form.

Users are advised to delete their data from the 23andMe platform. This step may be all the more essential since the company is at the point of pleading bankruptcy and may be at the point of a potential sale. Data can be deleted by logging into your 23andMe account and finding your way to the Settings option, and thereafter scrolling to the Delete Data choice.

The company has assured its users that it is “business as usual,” however, after the data breach and with the talks of bankruptcy, users feel unsafe having their data revealed on this database filled with their genetic information.

Citizens affected by the considerable data breach must file a claim before the due date to avoid missing out on the $500 to $1,500 that they are eligible for.

The deadline to claim for the Enzo Biochem data breach settlement agreement has expired, but claimants can still claim to be part of this settlement agreement.

Who meets the criteria to file?

While the claim filing deadline for Christie’s data breach settlement has also expired, you have some time left to file for this 23andMe data breach settlement. Those who qualify to file a claim are those 23andMe customers who were customers between May 1 and October 1, 2023. All eligible claimants have received an official data breach notification that detailed the exposure of personal information during the data breach. Claimants can file for one of two types of claims.

  • Claimants can claim up to $500 for all undocumented expenses.
  • Claimants who can provide evidence of financial loss that occurred as a result of this data breach are eligible to claim up to $1,500.

Claimants who state that financial loss has occurred in their claim forms will need to attach the necessary documentation, including bank statements or credit card reports. In the rare case where customers experienced any interference with their DNA test results or telehealth services from 23andMe, they can file a claim for a separate category called the General Bar Date Package.

Despite the bankruptcy proceedings ongoing, claimants affected by the 23andMe data breach must not lose out on their chance to receive their share of the settlement agreement. For more information about this settlement, you can visit Top Class Actions and get informed about how to file a claim.

Disclaimer: You should not submit false or inflated claims under penalty of perjury, as class‑action claim forms historically required declarations signed “under penalty of perjury” to ensure authenticity. Submitting a fraudulent claim not only carries legal exposure—including potential civil and criminal sanctions—but also harms other eligible class members by diluting the available settlement pool.
