- Played at D-III Montclair State (NJ) for longtime head coach Ollie Gelston; started his coaching career at Montclair, as well
- Worked as a D-I assistant coach for 24 straight seasons, spending time under Brian Hill (Lehigh), John Barker Carpenter (Rider), Bob Dukiet (Marquette), Rudy Keeling (Maine), Tom Green (Fairleigh Dickinson), Tommy Amaker (Seton Hall), Jay Wright (Villanova) and Gary Waters (Rutgers)
- During this stretch, Hill coached in four NCAA Tournaments and seven NITs
- Elevated to head coach at Rutgers in 2006, coaching the Knights for four seasons in total
- Was just 47-77 as head coach, never finishing above .500 or reaching the postseason
- Returned to being an assistant in 2011, spending two seasons on Bill Carmody‘s staff at Northwestern
- Final coaching role was back at Seton Hall, where he was an assistant under Kevin Willard for five seasons
- Retired in 2018 after three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with the Pirates
