Alma Mater: University of Illinois (BA, 1994) / Ohio State University (MA, 1996)
The Chicago-native starred at Rich Central HS (IL), where he earned all-conference honors and is a member of the school’s HOF
- Spent four seasons playing at Illinois for head coach Lou Henson; played in two NCAA Tournaments
Started coaching as an assistant at Marion-Franklin HS in Columbus, OH while getting his masters’ at Ohio State
Returned to Chicago in 1996 and spent six seasons working under head coach Jimmy Collins at UIC
- Part of two NCAA Tournament teams while with the Flames, including the 1998 team that won the MCC title
Moved onto DePaul in 2002, spending the next three years as one of Dave Leitao‘s assistants then followed him to Virginia in 2005
His last college assistant role was at Notre Dame, where he worked under Mike Brey for two seasons
Hired in 2008 to be the head coach at Toledo, leading the Rockets for the next two seasons
- Went 7-25 in his first year and 4-28 (the worst record in school history) in his second before stepping down in March 2010
Cross has worked in the professional ranks ever since, including several stints as an assistant and one as a head coach in the NBA G League
- He spent a short stint coaching a professional team in Mexico before returning to the Sacramento Kings organization as a scout in 2017
- Most recently was worked as the scouting director for the New York Knicks (as of December 2020)
