- Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
- Alma Mater: University of Illinois (BA, 1994) / Ohio State University (MA, 1996)
- The Chicago-native starred at Rich Central HS (IL), where he earned all-conference honors and is a member of the school’s HOF
- Spent four seasons playing at Illinois for head coach Lou Henson; played in two NCAA Tournaments
- Started coaching as an assistant at Marion-Franklin HS in Columbus, OH while getting his masters’ at Ohio State
- Returned to Chicago in 1996 and spent six seasons working under head coach Jimmy Collins at UIC
- Part of two NCAA Tournament teams while with the Flames, including the 1998 team that won the MCC title
- Moved onto DePaul in 2002, spending the next three years as one of Dave Leitao‘s assistants then followed him to Virginia in 2005
- His last college assistant role was at Notre Dame, where he worked under Mike Brey for two seasons
- Hired in 2008 to be the head coach at Toledo, leading the Rockets for the next two seasons
- Went 7-25 in his first year and 4-28 (the worst record in school history) in his second before stepping down in March 2010
- Cross has worked in the professional ranks ever since, including several stints as an assistant and one as a head coach in the NBA G League
- He spent a short stint coaching a professional team in Mexico before returning to the Sacramento Kings organization as a scout in 2017
- Most recently was worked as the scouting director for the New York Knicks (as of December 2020)
