After three full seasons plus a 1-3 (0-1) start in year four, Geoff Collins has been fired as the head football coach at Georgia Tech. Collins was just 10-28 (7-19 ACC) during his tenure at the helm, missing bowl season every year.

“I am grateful to Coach Collins for his hard work and commitment to our student athletes,” President Ángel Cabrera said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the results of our football program have fallen short of what our loyal community, fans and athletes expect and deserve. We are committed to rebuilding the program and a coaching change is a necessary first step in that process.”

Assistant head coach Brent Key has been named the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. He played guard for George O’Leary and the Yellow Jackets from 1997-2000 and started out his coaching career as a graduate assistant under his former coach. Key came back to GT in 2019 after three years at Alabama – including the Tide’s 2017 national championship season – and eleven years at UCF.

In addition to Collins’ firing, the school has also parted ways with AD Todd Stansbury. Hired in 2016, Stansbury is a GT alum who oversaw an academically successful athletic department despite not seeing results on the field or court in the major revenue sports.

Frank Neville, a senior vice president and chief of staff at the University, has been tabbed as interim AD.
