  • Became head coach of the Breakdown Inc. AAU squad – based in Tallahassee, Florida – in 2005 and held that role through 2012
    • After graduating from FSU, Gillion spent four years (2008-12) as chief operating officer of Shooting4Success.Inc, a non-profit helping troubled youth through basketball
  • Was the head boys’ basketball coach at Northeast HS in Oakland Park, FL from 2008-13, completely turning around the program
  • Joined the college ranks in 2013, spending one season as Anthony Evans‘ director of basketball operations at FIU
  • Next spent three seasons on Orlando Antigua‘s staff at South Florida, working as special assistant to the head coach
  • Served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Tennessee Tech (under Steve Payne) and Samford (under Bucky McMillan)
  • In July 2021, Gillion was hired as the next head coach of the Chicago State Cougars
    • After going 7-25 in his first year, Gillion’s squad won 11 games in year two playing an independent schedule
    • His 2023-24 team went 13-19 overall and appeared in the CBI, earning the first D-I postseason victory in program history
      • The Cougars upset #25 Northwestern on the road in December 2023, a monumental win for the program
  • Gillion resigned from CSU in April 2024 to become the associate head coach under Rod Strickland at LIU
