- Alma Mater: Colorado State A&M (BA, 1951)
- Was a two-time all-conference player at Colorado State, where he played for coaches Bebe Lee and Bill Strannigan
- After college, Anderson served in the US Marines for several years and then worked in the private sector
- Arrived at Iowa State in 1955 to be the freshman coach and an assistant under Strannigan
- In 1959, Strannigan left for Wyoming and Anderson was elevated to head coach of the Cyclones
- Went 141-161 overall during his 12-year tenure at the helm; finished above .500 six times
- Coached several future NBA draftees, including Henry Whitney, Zaid Abdul-Aziz (then Don Smith) and Bill Cain
- Retired from coaching in 1971 after 16 years with the Cyclones’ program
- Passed away in 2008 at the age of 79 at his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas
