Green Bay fires head coach Will Ryan midway through year three

Green Bay has fired head men’s basketball coach Will Ryan, the school announced on Tuesday. The Phoenix are just 2-19 this year and a cumulative 15-61 in 2+ seasons under Ryan.

“I want to sincerely thank Will Ryan and his family for their contributions to the men’s basketball program these past three seasons,” AD Josh Moon said in a statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

The son of former Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan, Will was hired in 2020 after spending the previous year at D-II Wheeling (WV). Green Bay had just fired Linc Darner, who went to three postseason tournaments (one NCAA) in five years at the helm.

According to the release, the Phoenix will be led in the interim by assistant coach Freddie Owens and a national search has been launched to find a permanent replacement.
