  • Hometown: Irvine, Kentucky
  • Alma Mater: Eastern Kentucky University (BA, 1955)
  • Graduated from Irvine HS (KY) and started his college career playing for HOF coach Adolph Rupp and Kentucky
  • Served in the Korean War from 1951-52 and when he returned he enrolled at Eastern Kentucky, playing for Paul McBrayer
  • Became the head coach at D-II Kentucky Wesleyan in 1963, leading the Panthers for four seasons
    • Went to the D-II NCAA Tournament three times, winning the NCAA title in 1966 and reaching the Final Four again in 1967
    • The 1965-66 team went 24-6 and Strong was named NABC Division II Coach of the Year
    • The Panthers won two more NCAA titles in the years following his departure, led by his former assistant Bob Daniels
  • Left for his alma mater Eastern Kentucky in 1967, going 78-65 in six seasons as the Colonels’ head coach
    • The highlight of his tenure was the 1971-72 team that won a share of the OVC title and reached the NCAA Tournament
  • Final collegiate job was a four-year stint at Oklahoma State, though he was just 35-70 with the Cowboys
  • Worked for a total of 13 seasons (1983-90 and 1995-2001) as head coach at George Rogers Clark HS in Winchester, KY
