- Clarence Sinclair Edmundson
- Born August 3, 1886
- Died August 6, 1964
- Hometown: Moscow, Idaho
- Alma Mater: University of Idaho (BS, 1910)
- Nickname “Hec” came from his mother, as he often muttered “oh, heck” as a child
- Was a standout track athlete at his hometown school, competing in the 1908 US Olympic Trials
- Organized the Idaho cross country team, which won nine PCC titles in 1908
- Continued his track career after graduating, while also teaching and coaching at the high school level
- Ran the 800m and 400m at the 1912 Olympics, finishing seventh and sixth, respectively
- Returned to Moscow to coach the Vandals track and field team for three years
- Two tenures split by one year coaching at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA
- Also began coaching basketball at Idaho in 1916, going 20-9 over two seasons
- Spent one year at Texas A&M before arriving at Washington in 1920 to coach both track and basketball
- Was the Huskies’ head basketball coach for 27 seasons, compiling a 488-195 record overall
- Won five PCC regular season titles and led the Huskies to the 1943 NCAA Tournament
- Served as track coach for 34 years; inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame (1979)
- University renamed UW Pavilion in his honor, changing it to “Hec Edmund Pavilion” in 1948
- Was the Huskies’ head basketball coach for 27 seasons, compiling a 488-195 record overall
