High Point head coach Scott Cherry fired

High Point head basketball coach Scott Cherry was fired Wednesday after nine seasons with Panthers. Cherry led the team to the postseason four straight years (two CITs and two NITs) but in the last two years has finished below .500.

Cherry leaves HPU with an overall 146-134 record, though he won four straight conference or division titles. He was awarded Big South Coach of the Year honors just four short years ago.

Prior to his arrival at High Point, Cherry spent ten seasons as a Division I assistant working for the likes of Jim Larrañaga and Darrin Horn. He played his college ball at North Carolina for legendary head coach Dean Smith and served as senior captain of the 1993 National Championship team.
