Iowa State, Steve Prohm to part ways after six seasons

Iowa State released a brief statement Monday evening noting that the school and head basketball coach Steve Prohm had agreed to part ways. Prohm took the Cyclones to three NCAA Tournaments, but the last two seasons had seen the tide turn dramatically in Ames.

The 2020-21 squad was just 2-22 (0-18 Big 12), the most losses in a seasons since 1975-76 and the first winless conference slate since they were 0-10 in the Big 6 in 1936-37.

“The last six years in Ames has been amazing for me and my family,” Prohm said Tuesday in a statement on Twitter. “Though my time didn’t end like I would hope, I leave here focused on the many great and positive things that we accomplished here together.”

“I wish all of CyclONEnation nothing but the best,” he concluded. “This is an absolutely special place that provided my family and I so many special moments on and off the floor. It also provided us with the opportunity to build many lifelong friendships that developed here in Ames. I can’t wait to see you guys back on top!!”
