In whatever way possible, automakers are trying by all means to ensure that they produce the best engines. One of the reasons would be to remain competitive in the market, and another is to match up with the change of times and engine expectations in the world currently in the name of sustainability or eco-friendliness. This so-called tiny engine is different and has a quality that we will unpack soon. It is small, but it is regarded as effective as a regular-sized engine and is expected to compete with some available fuel engines. There is no trace of batteries, hydrogen, or plugging of any sort.
Honestly, the smaller the better, but is this engine worth it?
The song of clean fuels is so loud that you cannot get it out of your head. We have heard of electricity, hydrogen, and many more. However, a key factor has been size. A small-sized engine comes with its advantages because the vehicle is more efficient in terms of operation and mobility. Additionally, it is a technology type that all automakers are trying to put together so that it is successful.
This is not the only tiny engine. There is another one said to have the potential to put a stop to hydrogen. The tiny engine was initially developed about two decades ago by a man called Michael Arsenaeu. It is a combination of revolution and evolution at the same time. A potential engine that can push boundaries, however, will it last in this world where everything is rapidly changing?
Avadi: An extremely small internal combustion engine with a powerful punch
This new engine is taking over all traditional powertrains and clean engines there are, why? I think it’s because of its size. We have situations where researchers and engineers find the perfect engine and clean resources to produce a clean fuel, and then they are stuck because of size. While this is not a huge deal, it is a deal to a certain extent. Therefore, a small engine plays a significant role in making the production process easier.
The engine is called the Avadi engine, in case you were wondering about that.
This engine has the following attributes:
- 15.8 horsepower at 3,700 rpm.
- Torque of 22 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm.
- Brake thermal efficiency is 42%, which is higher than that of most contemporary petrol engines.
- The weight is 77.2 lb (35 kg).
- It is aimed at producing a clean fuel for vehicles.
It stopped for a while, but it looks like Avadi developers are working on something and will be back soon
In 2023 and part of 2024, the Avadi engine made headlines, and everyone got excited about it. But the U.S. engine-making company put a halt to this project for a while. A management change took place when CTO Michel Arseneau, who first designed the engine 20 years ago, stepped down from the role. However, Landon Wilkinson, CEO and co-founder, expressed hope in 2024, saying:
“The revised engine design is coming along nicely. We achieved positive compression results last week with the new valve design and anticipate run tests in the near future.”
The world is moving and getting creative. We are looking at other engine types that are also expected to yield the same results, such as the Bubble engine from Finland. So, the thing about this tiny engine, said to be destroying all existing fuels, hydrogen is not just an existence or a making; it is a small powerhouse as well. Trust me, if it is being compared to a powerful file like hydrogen, then we are talking of something real here, not just another production from a random company wanting to take chances.
