Imagine starting a new job, and before you know it, you get sick and need some time off without even getting the chance to adjust to the new environment. Jacob Misiorowski went through that recently after his MLB debut. If I were a baseball player, for my debut, I would expect cheers, noise, health, and strength, and imagine that nothing would go wrong. That is exactly what Jacob Misiorowski was expecting. No one expects something bad to happen whenever a promotion comes by. It is all positive vibes. He has always been known to be a good and unique player with a future, but something went wrong.
Everyone’s favourite player is stopping his game because of an unexpected event
Even if you know him, just seeing a player make a new turn in his professional career feels like observing a new player whom everyone has been vouching for, and you have high expectations for them. Here is the thing about this baseball player: he is a full package. He has all the pitching and striking skills; he positions himself very well and ensures that his speed is fast enough to play a good game.
I am being reminded of a young man who just joined a team, and for his first game, he performed so well that it was his first victory after signing with the Baltimore Orioles. These are the young baseball players that we know will keep the legacy going. Back to Jacob Misiorowski. He was off to a great start; however, it was not in his favour because he had to sit on the benches just when he was ready to make a great strike.
Jacob Misiorowski’s MLB debut is cut short due to an injury
The 23-year-old was not slowing down, stopping or showing any signs of tiredness; he was doing what he was born for. After ten hitters, that is when it just went south. Here is the thing: while trying to field a soft grounder. He slipped on his plant foot. Awkwardly, his body twisted. And he fell, and before we knew it, he hurt his ankle. It was just that quiet moment when you know that it is the end. It was not a happy ending as we expected.
To a standing ovation, the 6-foot-7, 197-pound pitcher left the field with a trainer. Jacob Misiorowski gave up no hits on 81 pitches (49 strikes) while striking out five and walking four. According to MLB, the fireballer’s 14 pitches, including the first three he threw, reached or exceeded 100 mph. One of the coaches that were present, sadly, expressed:
“He just rolled It. Nothing dramatic. Just one of those unlucky moments.”
Is Misiorowski going to be okay?
Here is what we know so far:
- He got his ankle strained during a game. This was his first MLB debut.
- Doctors confirmed that nothing was broken in the bones or a torn muscle (good news).
- He is expected to be present in the stadium every day until the swelling goes down.
Ankle injuries are not new. In fact, injuries are a thing in sport. The disappointing part is when this happens when you are new and want to put your head into the game. One of the great players in baseball, Max Muncy, once had an ankle injury. However, he recently played his A-game, hit a two-run home run, and broke the record by reaching no. 200. This means, while it is a bummer right now, Jacob Misiorowski should be up and running in no time. The good part? In the first minutes of his game, he was able to show the MLB why he was a great choice in the first place.
