It does not matter how much of a great athlete you are; when something amiss happens and breaks the rules, you will need to face the consequences. Jaime Munguia seems to be in that situation right now; however, it is not finalised because his team and he claim that the positive result was not driven by any intention to take the dope. Boxing is like a branched sport. The good, the bad, the scandalous and one mistake can change everything for a player in an instant. We have been witnessing Jaime Munguia soar, but now everything is on hold as we see what happens next and if he is guilty or innocent.
Jaime Munguia is not just a regular name or player
One can confidently say, “he is in charge of the ring.” With his skilled footwork and punches, in boxing, the rules do not change. What happens before and after a match is important. If you were elite in a match and got the crowd screaming and shouting, but after that, you test positive because of a substance, all that does not matter. You are pushed away like nothing ever happened before.
Jaime Munguia has only lost twice, making him a clean, fresh, young player in his prime that everyone is vouching for. However, recent news about this status seems to be ignoring all that. However, because the league, team and his coach have not yet declared anything, we can still hold on to how great he is. However, what happened, and why is Munguia making the headlines?
Not just any person, but Jaime Munguia, tested positive for a prohibited drug
His promising and potential career is walking on thin ice. He tested positive for exogenous testosterone. Exogenous testosterone is an unnatural testosterone that is produced outside one’s body. People, especially athletes, use it through medication, injections or patches. This has been banned by boxing, and if Jaime is discovered to have tampered with it, he will face a suspension of 6 months to a year and jeopardise his career.
This was discovered on the 4th of May after his win over Bruno Surace. Jaime Munguia’s team has supported him, claiming that for the past years he has never tested positive for exogenous testosterone; therefore, this time around, there could be some kind of mistake. On the other hand, specialists expressed that there is a possibility that the testosterone came from other normal medications that players take for health purposes.
Supporting him, his team said,
“First, it is important to reiterate: Jaime Munguia has never tested positive in more than 100 anti-doping tests throughout his professional career so far. His record speaks for itself.”
If his tests come back positive and there is no evidence that it was unintentional, this will happen to him
- He will be suspended for quite some time.
- His win will be ruled out.
- It will tarnish his reputation, especially since he has maintained a good one for years.
- It will pull him back instead of moving forward.
He is known to be one of the most powerful Mexican Boxers, and we are or were anticipating that he will participate in the upcoming World Boxing at the LA 2028 Olympics. If, however, things turn out the other way, we will have to embrace the situation until the suspension period is over. The boxer player himself seems shocked at these allegations and tests because he expressed that he is willing to go through every test process to prove that he is a clean athlete. Can they give him the benefit of the doubt? Or will it seem like favouritism? He seems to have a good support system. Let us see how it goes.
