Jamey Chadwell leaving Coastal Carolina for Liberty

Liberty officially announced on Sunday the hiring of Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell as the Flames’ new head football coach. Chadwell went 39-22 in five seasons at Coastal, twice winning 11 games and reaching three bowls.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Chadwell and his family to Liberty,” said AD Ian McCaw. “He is one of the most sought-after and accomplished head coaches in the country.”

This will be the fifth head coaching job for Chadwell, who also has stints at FCS Charleston Southern (SC), D-II Delta State (MS) and D-II North Greenville (SC). Overall he has a 99-57 (.635) and has turned the Chanticleers into one of the better ‘Group of 5’ programs in FBS over the last few seasons.

The Flames program has been Independent since joining FBS in 2018, but will move to Conference USA starting next season. Liberty was previously led by Hugh Freeze, who went 34-15 with four bowl berths in four years before taking the Auburn job earlier this week.
