Jamion Christian leaves Siena for George Washington

Less than a year after leaving his alma mater for Siena, Jamion Christian is on the move again. The 36-year-old has been hired as the head coach at George Washington in the Atlantic 10, much closer to his home state of Virginia.

Christian burst onto the scene at alma mater Mount St. Mary’s, taking the Mountaineers to two NCAA Tournaments in six seasons at the helm. After parlaying that success into the Siena job last May, Christian is taking another career step forward into the formidable A-10. He inherits a Colonials team that went just 9-24 this past season, the third under former head coach Maurice Joseph.

As for Siena, who likely did not think they would have to run another coaching search so soon, they may want to look within. Current assistant Carmen Maciariello is a worthy replacement for Christian and could maintain stability that will be much-needed with all the turnover at the top. Other candidates include Le Moyne head coach Patrick Beilein, the son of Michigan‘s John Beilein and a NY-native who has been coaching at the Syracuse, NY Division II program since 2015.
