Jamion Christian hired as Siena head coach

Mount St. Mary’s head coach Jamion Christian has accepted the same position at Siena. Christian was 101-95 in six years at MSM and 38-30 over the last two seasons.

The Siena job opened up in April when previous head coach Jimmy Patsos resigned as a result of an investigation of his treatment of Saints players. Patsos had some success at Siena, but never took the Saints to the NCAA Tournament. This past season was his worst, finishing 8-24 just two years removed from a 21-win campaign.

Christian has been a hot name on the coaching carousel for the past several seasons. He took the Mountaineers to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and 2017 by way of NEC Tournament titles. In 2017 he also won the NEC regular season title, earning him conference COY honors and the annual Ben Jobe Award. The school signed Christian to an extension last summer that would keep him under contract through the 2026-27 season.

Prior to taking over at Mount St. Mary’s, Christian spent one year assisting Shaka Smart at VCU and several seasons in assistant or DBO roles at William & Mary, Bucknell and D-III Emory and Henry. He is a Mount St. Mary’s grad, serving as captain of the men’s basketball team for three seasons (2000-2003).
