The car of the future has been announced in Japan by Toyota. Their new 2026 minivan is getting a lot of interest. With many pointing to a return of the infamous Previa. A car that did not sell particularly well in the United States. The competition at the time was fierce and although Toyota was already a household name, they struggled in the minivan department. The strange egg shape and less than ideal performance stats when compared to its American rivals proved to be its demise. Will the new Previa suffer the same fate or experience a different destiny?
Can Toyota dominate the new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle sector?
While the world searches for the most sustainable fuel to replace the ever problematic and destructive fossil fuel industry, Toyota have been quietly preparing to shake the market up with its new range of cars set for release in the next few years. They have a reputation as one of, if not the best, car manufacturers in the world. They currently have a huge percentage of the global automotive market firmly in their grip.
Toyota have had one family in control of the company since it was founded. The Toyoda family have followed the traditions set out all those generations ago and have experienced immense success in the process. Toyota is officially the world’s biggest car manufacturer and has been so for the past five years consecutively. They will no doubt have the manufacturing advantage over their competition in the sector.
Their infrastructure and dominance in the global automotive market will most certainly serve them well in their new models. The alternative power they now have in their engines and hands, will power the “car of the future” according to the iconic Japanese car maker. The EV sector has not been the kindest place for Toyota, however their new designs have the potential to leave all that in the past.
What exactly is Toyota’s vision for the “car of the future”?
Toyota was the first company to mass produce a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with the Prius. It became immensely popular and the must have item for the climate conscience consumer. Many would have thought that because of this success, they would have been the company leading the innovation in the sector. That was not to be the case.
In 2010 Tesla replaced Toyota as the world’s leader in sustainable personal mobility. But the new cars they have announced have the potential to leapfrog them into the top spot. Especially since Tesla have been experiencing some, lets say, “PR” problems as of late. They stated that their new cars will be feature a plug-in hybrid system that they say is the way of the future.
With their compatriots looking for an answer to the world’s energy problems, Toyota have invested their resources and time into their new cars. Facing the reality that the traditional internal combustion engine is slowly fading away, they have opted for a plug-in hybrid future for their range of cars. Their commitment might be the right one if the evidence is anything to go by.
Can we really leave gasoline and hydrogen behind like Toyota suggest?
The world has been searching for the next fuel that can power us into the future. Many have some ideas on how to do that. However, they are just ideas. Toyota have made their statement and vision for the future very clear. They envision a plug-in hybrid future for their cars and in turn, for all of us. The problems with infrastructure in the world’s poorest regions might be an obstacle for the likes of Toyota. But Tesla have shown us that the world is ready to accept, and buy, an alternative option to the traditional gasoline car we all grew up with.
