Japan has produced the most shocking zero-emission motorcycle to date. The new motorcycles will not be powered by hydrogen but something that has a more substantial imprint on the infrastructure of modern day society, electricity. The emergence of the EV sector meant that huge investments were being made into the infrastructure that was needed to support it. Now Honda have revealed their new electric motorcycles which represent a huge market share for the company. They have invested a lot and bet the future of the company on their electric bikes being a success.
Is the electric engine the right step into the future for the automotive world?
Once the effects of the world’s reliance on the fossil fuel industry became evident through the climate crisis, the automotive manufacturers of the world were forced to begin searching for a suitable alternative to the gasoline powered engine. The alternative power industry has existed for a number of decades already, however it was always viewed as fringe science and never really got the investments that it needed.
That all began to change when in 2008, Elon Musk became the CEO of Tesla and Warren Buffet made a sizable investment into a little Chinese company called BYD. From that point on the electric race was on, so to speak. Tesla would prove to be the dominant force in the American EV sector while BYD experienced massive growth in the Chinese automotive market. BYD have since challenged Tesla in the globlal EV market.
While the world searches furiously for any other fuel sources, Honda have been making strategic partnerships and investing heavily in their electric plans, Honda are known for their legendary motorcycles and have recently released their newest electric bikes. Stating that they are focused on electrifying their lineup of next generation motorcycles.
What will the Honda motorcycles of the future look like?
What Honda have revealed to the public is astonishing. Their motorcycles have always sold well all over the globe and their commitment to a electric future has some questioning that choice. They have released two new electric motorcycles for the market. The “EV Fun Concept” and “EV Urban Concept” will be significantly different and appeal to different types of people, however they will both be 100% all electric.
The EV Fun Concept is Honda’s first electric sports model aimed at the average city dweller. The 100km range gives it enough juice to ride around your local city all day without having to recharge. Honda have also boasted about the vibration-free ride and zero noise. This is their first attempt at selling a fully electric motorcycle to the buying public globally.
The second motorcycle set for release this year is the EV Urban Concept. This model is smaller and resembles a traditional scooter. At a lower price bracket this might end up being the more successful of the two. It would appeal to a larger consumer base globally. Honda has had some problems in recent months but these new electric motorcycles represent a step in the right direction.
Is this the end for the gasoline powered motorcycle?
The worlds first gasoline powered motorcycle came out of Germany in 1886. Since then, Germany have evolved their engineering with varying results. And Japan have made their own advancements in the engines that move us about. With Honda releasing these new electric motorcycles the question then becomes, will the rest of the motorcycles industry follow the example they have set? The world is fast approaching the end of the internal combustion engine’s dominance on the mobility sector and these new motorcycles from Honda prove that Japan is ready as well.
