  • Alma Mater: Middle Tennessee State University (BA)
  • Played at South Carolina State under longtime head coach Cy Alexander for three seasons
    • Would later finish his degree at Middle Tennessee after starting his coaching career in TN
  • First coaching jobs were at Centennial HS (Franklin, TN), Tennessee State (under Alexander) and Columbia State CC (TN)
  • Spent two seasons as an assistant at Rutgers under head coach Fred Hill and then one season at NAIA Cumberland (TN)
  • Returned to Columbia State CC as head coach in 2009, going 61-23 in three seasons and winning two TN CC Athletic Association titles
  • Arrived at North Carolina A&T in 2012, spending four seasons under his former coach Cy Alexander, before taking over as head coach midway through the 2015-16 season
    • After winning just three games in his first full season, his 2017-18 Aggies team won 20 games and played in the 2018 CIT
    • In December 2019, the school announced that Joyner was suspended indefinitely from his position
      • The Aggies were 3-10 at the time; went 14-5 the remainder of the year under interim head coach Will Jones
    • The University officially accepted Joyner’s resignation in June 2020 and Jones was named his permanent replacement
  • Hired in November 2021 to be the head coach of the newly-reinstated basketball program at Yavapai College in Arizona
  • Along with his wife has three children
