Fairfield hires Rutgers assistant Jay Young as head coach

Fairfield announced Wednesday the hiring of Jay Young, a former Division II and JUCO head coach who has spent the last eleven seasons on Steve Pikiell‘s staff at both Stony Brook and Rutgers.

“Jay has a stellar reputation for operating with integrity and an authentic approach to the recruitment and overall development of young men,” AD Paul Schlickmann said in a statement. “He has coached at every level of college basketball and has been the common denominator of great success at each of those stops. Jay is a winner and will be relentless in his approach to achieve excellence in every aspect of our program.”

Young led New Haven to the Division II NCAA Tournament twice as their head coach and appeared in the Division I Tournament in with Northeastern in 1991 and Stony Brook in 2016. He graduated from Marist, also a member of the MAAC, in 1986.
