Jay Young steps down as Fairfield head coach

Fairfield head basketball coach Jay Young has stepped down, the school announced on Monday. Young had been at the helm since 2019 and was 50-73 overall with the Stags, who start their season in less than a month.

Assistant coach Chris Casey, who was hired by Young in 2019 after six seasons as the head coach at Niagara and three at LIU Post (D-II), will serve as interim head coach for the 2023-24 season.

The Fairfield program hasn’t played in the NCAA Tournament since 1997 and haven’t won a MAAC title since 2011, Ed Cooley‘s last season there.

We will provide further details on the situation whenever they become available.
