  • Alma Mater: LeTourneau College (BA, 1976)
  • Early coaching roles in his native Texas included stints at Jasper HS, Hallsville HS, Kilgore HS and at his alma mater LeTourneau College
  • Arrived at Louisiana Tech in 1986 and spent three seasons as an assistant there under head coach Tommy Joe Eagles
  • Elevated to head coach in 1989 and led the Bulldogs for the next five seasons
    • In his first three seasons, Loyd went to one NCAA Tournament and two NITs and won two conference titles (one American South and one Sun Belt); however, he won just seven and two games in his final two seasons, respectively, and parted ways with the program in 1994
  • Coached for four seasons at NAIA Dillard in New Orleans and also spent one year (1997-98) as the athletic director there
    • Went 84-40 overall, winning a GCAC title and going to the NAIA D-I Tournament in 1997
