- Alma Mater: University of Southern California (BA, 1960)
- Attended Montebello HS (CA) before playing four seasons under head coach Forrest Twogood at USC
- Spent one year on Twogood‘s staff before Jack Gardner‘s staff at Utah in 1961
- Was an assistant at Utah for thirteen seasons, ten under Gardner then three more under Bill E. Foster
- Took over as the head coach at Utah in 1974 when Foster departed for Duke
- Went 173-86 in nine seasons at the helm, leading the Utes to five NCAA Tournaments (four Sweet Sixteens)
- Won the WAC title three times and finished with 20+ wins four of nine seasons
- Left Utah in 1983 to become the head coach at UC Santa Barbara, a position he held for 15 seasons
- Went 222-201 during his tenure at UCSB, going to two NCAA Tournaments and three NITs
- Stepped away from coaching in 1998 but continued to work within the school’s athletic department
- Was an assistant with Team USA (under head coach Lute Olson), who won gold at the 1986 FIBA World Championships
