- Born April 20, 1937
- Alma Mater: Oregon State University (BA, 1959)
- Played for Hall of Fame head coach Slats Gill at OSU, where he was a part of the 1958 PCC title team
- Hired by Gill in 1960, he served as freshmen coach and varsity assistant for three seasons
- On the staff when the Beavers went to the NCAA Final Four in 1963
- Spent two years as the head coach at Newberg HS (OR)
- Returned to OSU in 1965 to work as an assistant coach under Paul Valenti
- Was an assistant for the next 24 seasons, 6 with Valenti and 18 under Ralph Miller
- Went to nine NCAA Tournaments (though three were later vacated) and three NITs
- The Beavers won six Pac-8/Pac-10 regular season titles while Anderson was an assistant
- Elevated to head coach in 1989, serving in that capacity for six seasons
- Won the Pac-10 regular season title in 1990 and was named Pac-10 COY
- Was unable to maintain that success in the years following, finishing below .500 in each of his last four years
- Let go in 1995 after two straight single-digit win seasons
- Named to the Oregon State Athletics Hall of Fame (c/o 2015) and Pac-12 Basketball Hall of Honor (c/o 2016)
