Jim Christian fired after seven seasons at Boston College

Boston College announced a change of leadership on Monday, firing head men’s basketball coach Jim Christian after seven seasons with the program. The Eagles are 3-13 (1-9 ACC) this year, lowering Christian’s total record at BC to 78-132 (26-94 ACC).

“I know that Jim gave everything that he had into leading our program and mentoring our student-athletes,” AD Pat Kraft said in a release. “Ultimately, the program is not headed in the right direction and though I hesitate to make a mid-season coaching change in any sport, now is the right time for us to look forward. We wish Jim and his family all the best in their future endeavors and thank them for their service to Boston College.”

While the firing is not shocking given the production on the court, the timing – with several weeks still remaining in the season – is a little bit of a surprise. There are a couple of power conference schools with interim head coaches, but BC becomes the first such school to fire their head coach in 2021.

Assistant coach Scott Spinelli, who has been at BC since Christian arrived in 2014, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
