Jim Ferry hired as head coach at UMBC

UMBC announced on Monday that it had hired Jim Ferry to be the Retrievers’ head men’s basketball coach. There will be an introductory press conference at the school on Wednesday.

Ferry spent last season as the interim head coach at Penn State, going 11-14 after Pat Chambers’ resignation, but was not retained in the offseason. Prior to his arrival in State College in 2019, Ferry was the head coach at Duquesne, LIU Brooklyn, D-II Adelphi and D-III Plymouth State. Took the (then) Blackbirds to the NCAA Tournament in both 2011 and 2012.

The previous UMBC head coach, Ryan Odom, left earlier this month to take the head coaching job at Utah State.
