Joe Dooley fired (again) as head coach at East Carolina

For the second time in his career, Joe Dooley has been fired after four years (eight total) as the head coach at East Carolina. He has an overall record of 101-119 with the program, but was just 44-67 in his second stint.

“For the last four seasons, Joe has worked tirelessly to improve our basketball program,” said AD Jon Gilbert, “and I thank him for his dedication and commitment since the day he was hired. We wish him well in his future endeavors. We are committed to building a winning program and developing young men who are leaders on and off the court.”

Dooley was re-hired in 2018 after a successful five-year stint as the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast, leading the Eagles to the postseason every year (including two NCAA Tournaments) and winning three Atlantic Sun titles. However, he was unable to finish better than 9th in the AAC over the last four years with the Pirates.
