  • Born September 18, 1972
  • Hometown: Saint Paul, Minnesota
  • Alma Mater: University of St. Thomas (BA, 1995) / University of Wisconsin (Ph.D, 2000)
  • The Saint Paul-native played at UST for long-time head coach Steve Fritz; helped the team reach the D-III Final Four in 1994
    • Was named All-MIAC and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001
  • After getting his Ph.D, Tauer returned to his alma mater to become a psychology professor and assistant basketball coach
  • Elevated to head coach following Fritz’s retirement in 2011, serving in that role since then
    • Won 218 games, eight MIAC titles, three MIAC Tournaments and went to 8 NCAA D-III Tournaments in ten seasons in D-III
    • Led the Tommies to the Final Four in 2013 and a second D-III NCAA Championship in 2016; Tauer was named 2016 NABC D-III COY
    • Starting in 2021, the athletic program moved directly from D-III to D-I and joined the Summit League
