  • The Long Island-native played at LIU for Hall of Fame head coach Clair Bee
    • Played professionally for the New York Jewels in the ABL
    • Served in the United States Navy during World War II
  • Norton was the head men’s basketball coach for 22 seasons and is the winningest coach in program history (300 victories)
    • Won six conference titles (4x Metro NY and 2x Metropolitan) and went to the postseason eleven times (2x NCAA, 8x NIT, 1x NAIA)
      • Reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1958 by upsetting Jerry West and top-ranked West Virginia in the first round
    • Norton also coached baseball and golf at different points throughout his time at Manhattan
    • Stepped away as head basketball coach in 1968 but remained at Manhattan as athletic director until retiring in 1979
    • Inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989
  • Passed away in July 1996 at the age of 82 in Henderson, North Carolina
