Former Kentucky head coach and national champion Joe B. Hall dies at 93

Joe B. Hall, the head coach at Kentucky from 1972-85 who led the Wildcats to three Final Fours and a National Championship in 1978, has passed away at the age of 93.

Current Kentucky head coach John Calipari had this to say on Saturday: “Coach Joe B. Hall – my friend, my mentor, and an icon in our state and in our profession – passed away this morning. Joe B. Hall took over a program and carried on the winning tradition and legacy of excellence of Kentucky basketball.”

Hall had been living in Lexington and was still an active part of the Kentucky program through his friendship with Calipari. He was still regularly attending UK practices as recently as 2018.

Kentucky plans to honor the late coach Hall during their home game against Tennessee on Saturday.
