  • Hometown: Verona, New Jersey
  • Alma Mater: Saint Peter’s College (BA, 1979) / Virginia Commonwealth University (MA)
  • Played for head coaches Dick McDonald and Bob Kelly at Saint Peter’s; inducted into the school’s Athletic HOF in 1986
  • First job was as an assistant at D-III Trenton State (NJ), where he worked under coach Tom McCorry for three years
  • Took over as head coach of the Lions in 1982 when he was still only 25 years old
  • Left Trenton in 1989 to become the head coach at Division I Rider, also in New Jersey
  • Hired at Rutgers in 1997, coaching the Scarlet Knights for four seasons
    • Never reached the NCAA Tournament but went to the NIT in both 1999 and 2000
    • Fired in 2001 after going 59-60 overall; during his tenure, Bannon and Rutgers were sued by two former players following an alleged incident in practice in 1999
  • After Rutgers, Bannon worked for the Mercer County (NJ) Park Commission and spent one year as the boys’ basketball coach at Notre Dame HS in Lawrenceville, NJ, where he resides
    • He has also done radio broadcasts during Rider basketball games
  • Along with his wife, Cindy, has one son, Tommy
