  • Was hired in 1988 to be an assistant at Kansas under head coach Roy Williams, a position he held for five seasons
  • Spent six seasons as the head coach at Illinois State, winning 123 games during his tenure there
  • Next up was a 17-year stint as the head coach at Vanderbilt in the SEC
    • Led the Commodores to seven NCAA Tournaments and won the most games in program history (332)
  • Hired in March 2016 to become the new head coach at Pittsburgh
  • Along with his wife, Lisa, has three children; one son, Jacob, is a professional baseball player with the Pittsburgh Pirates
