- Alma Mater: Purdue University (BA, 1982 & MA, 1985)
- Played at Purdue under legendary Boilermakers’ head coach Gene Keady
- Started his coaching career on Keady’s staff, working at Purdue for six seasons
- Was hired in 1988 to be an assistant at Kansas under head coach Roy Williams, a position he held for five seasons
- Spent six seasons as the head coach at Illinois State, winning 123 games during his tenure there
- Claimed MVC Tournament and regular season titles in both 1997 and 1998
- Next up was a 17-year stint as the head coach at Vanderbilt in the SEC
- Led the Commodores to seven NCAA Tournaments and won the most games in program history (332)
- Hired in March 2016 to become the new head coach at Pittsburgh
- Fired just two years later following an 0-18 ACC season (8-24 overall)
- Along with his wife, Lisa, has three children; one son, Jacob, is a professional baseball player with the Pittsburgh Pirates
