Tulsa hires Kevin Wilson as head football coach

Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has been hired as the new head football coach at Tulsa, the school announced Monday. Wilson has been at OSU for the last six seasons, during which time the Buckeyes have had the most productive offense in the Big Ten every year (in yardage and scoring).

This is the second head coaching job for Wilson, who spent six seasons (2011-16) at the helm at Indiana. He went 26-47 overall with the Hoosiers, turning the perennial also-ran program into a consistent bowl participant. Wilson also commanded an impressive offense in Bloomington, gaining an average of 504.3 yards in 2015 – best in the Big Ten and 14th best in FBS.

Before IU, Wilson spent nine years as the Co-OC or OC at Oklahoma under Bob Stoops. The Sooners were 98-24 during that stretch and consistently in the Top 5-10. He won the Broyles Award in 2008 as the nation’s top assistant coach.

He has also worked at Northwestern and Miami (OH) under Randy Walker, who was an assistant at North Carolina when Wilson was playing OL for the Tar Heels in the early 1980s.
