It is over for Keyshawn Davis. You would be shocked at how things can change in as little as a minute in boxing. If you do not adhere to certain rules immediately, you cannot fight your opponent, no matter how much you prepared for it. At times, it is things out of a boxer’s control, and at times, you can just tell that they did not even try to put in effort. Therefore, it does not matter if your names speak volumes and you are the elite players in boxing; once a rule is broken, it is broken, and you get disqualified immediately. Keyshawn Davis has disappointed his fans recently, and he did not even seem bothered by it.
Keyshawn Davis missed on something so small, and yet very crucial for his career
Here is the thing which applies to life in general and in sport, like boxing. Self-awareness, discipline, control, hard work, empathy, ethics and respect play a significant role in polishing one to get to greater heights. Therefore, if one of those is slack and there is a lack of consistency and so forth, it then dies down. Keyshawn Davis seemed to have lagged, and now we talk of something different.
Furthermore, you would also be surprised that a simple thing, something that might not seem important or something that, as people, we might brush away, actually can pause one’s career for a while. Keyshawn Davis missed something very important in the world of boxing. It is important because it communicates the state of your health, weight and fitness as a player to qualify for the games that come.
Without throwing a punch in the ring, Keyshawn Davis loses the title
Keyshawn Davis stripped of WBO lightweight champion. Yep, that is very correct; without even wearing the gloves, Keyshawn Davis lost his title. This all happened because of just a small, crucial detail that boxing pays attention to so much that it can delay one’s professional career until it is fixed. The boxer has gained quite a good reputation over time, but in June, he missed the 135-pound weight limit by more than four pounds.
And just like that, he lost his WBO lightweight championship. He expressed that he had outgrown the weight. This makes sense why he never put in the effort. He had already told himself that this was not such an important gesture for him and decided to let it go. Why then did he sign the contract? (shaking my head). He said,
“Nah, I outgrew weight. I’ve been making weight for four years now. I outgrew the weight. I tried.”
What does this imply for Davis and the lightweight division’s future?
First of all, now I totally understand why Andy Cruz expressed his disappointment in Keyshawn Davis. It looks like he has not been showing up for himself, his profession and the boxing league, which other players express disappointment about. It is not the end of his career, though, but it’s something he needs to take time to look into. He is in his mid-twenties, his prime; therefore, he can totally do better.
We have boxers who have surpassed their retirement age and are still making waves in the boxing ring. The likes of Manny Pacquiao, who even joined the Boxing Hall of Fame amid his eagerly awaited comeback. Is that not inspiration enough? Or perhaps he is thinking otherwise. Right now, if he wins, De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KO), who had no problems on the scale, can still take home the title. We have a really exciting match coming up this September 13. How about we focus on that while Keyshawn Davis fixes his life? A match between Canelo and Crawford.
