  • Hometown: Malad City, Idaho
  • Alma Mater: Utah State University (BA, 1951)
  • Was an all-conference player at USU under head coaches Joseph Whitesides and Cecil Baker
  • Hired in 1956 by Jack Gardner to be an assistant at Utah, serving in that role for five years
  • Returned to his alma mater in 1961, spending the next ten seasons as the Aggies’ head coach
    • Went 173-96 during his tenure and appeared in 5 NCAA Tournaments (3 Sweet 16s)
  • Left USU in 1971 and spent the next two years as the head coach of the Utah Stars of the ABA
    • Was 115-53 and made the Division Semifinals in both seasons
  • Stepped away from coaching in 1973 to become the athletic director at Utah State, working in that capacity for ten years
  • Final coaching job was a six-year stint as head coach at BYU (1983-89)
    • Compiled a 114-71 record overall, going to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT
    • Won the 1988 WAC title and earned WAC COY honors for that season
    • Resigned in 1989 with 287 total Division I victories (402 in total as a head coach)
  • Spent some time working as a scout and consultant for the NBA’s Utah Jazz
  • Member of the Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame (c/o 1994) and the Utah Sports Hall of Fame
  • Passed away in December 2019 at the age of 90
