- Born January 31, 1951
- Hometown: Denver, Colorado
- Alma Mater: University of California, Los Angeles (BA, 1973)
- After starring at Manual HS in Denver, Farmer played for legendary head coach John Wooden at UCLA
- Won three NCAA championships (part of seven-straight for UCLA) and went 89-1 during his career
- Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) and Denver Nuggets (ABA) but decided to coach instead
- Spent the next eight seasons as an assistant at UCLA under Wooden, Gene Bartow, Gary Cunningham and Larry Brown
- As an assistant, was part of seven NCAA Tournaments, two Final Fours and one NCAA title
- Took over as head coach in 1981, leading the Bruins for the next three years (61-23 overall)
- Won a Pac-10 title in 1983 and went to the NCAA Tournament
- Spent three years as the head coach at Weber State, going 34-54 with no postseason berths
- Worked in professional and international basketball for the next seven years
- Was head coach of Qadsia SC in Kuwait (1988-90) and Kuwait’s National Team (1992-97)
- Worked on Don Nelson’s staff with the Golden State Warriors for one season in between
- Returned to the college game in 1997, spending the season on Jim Harrick‘s staff at Rhode Island
- Hired in 1998 to be the head coach at Loyola Chicago, leading the Ramblers for six seasons
- Struggled for the first three seasons before going 17-13 (9-7) in 2001-02
- After two more losing seasons, Farmer was fired from his position in 2004
- After some time away from coaching, Farmer spent three years as an assistant at Hawaii under Bob Nash
- Joined Steve Hawkins‘ staff at Western Michigan in 2010 as an assistant
- Worked at WMU for seven seasons over two tenures (2010-12 and 2013-18)
- Spent one year in between as Director of Player Development for Mark Gottfried at NC State
- Retired in June 2018 at the age of 67
